Agile testing practices

Many practices may be useful for testers in a scrum team, some of which include:

Pairing

Two team members sit together at one workstation to perform a testing or other sprint task.

Developer/Tester: Developer writes code and unit tests. Tester clarifies functionality, writes test cases, assist debugging.
Tester/Tester: One tester navigates whilst testing. The other observes, suggests actions, logs tests.
Tester/Product Owner: Tester uses testing knowledge to design and execute tests. Product Owner shares knowledge of business and system under test.

Incremental test design

Test cases and charters are gradually built from user stories and other test basis, starting with simple tests and moving toward more complex ones.

Mind mapping

Mind mapping is a useful tool when testing as it is often created around a single concept e.g., an exploratory test. Drawn as an image it shows the relationships that are connected directly to the central concept. Other ideas branch out from those major ideas to which associated representations of ideas such as images, words and parts of words are added. From that initial test the mind map will show other tests that branch from the original.
