Alibaba Relational Database Service
The course is part of this learning path
This course explores Alibaba's RDS service looking at RDS instances, features, security, and the foundational concepts of the service. You'll follow along with guided demos from the Alibaba Cloud platform that will show you how to use and manage the RDS service.
- Get a foundational understanding of the RDS service
- Create an RDS instance
- Set up backups and temporary instances
- Set up read-only instances
- Use monitoring, metrics, and alerts in RDS
- Upgrading RDS Instance Configuration
This course is intended for anyone who wants to learn more about Alibaba RDS, as well as anyone studying for the ACP Cloud Computing certification exam.
To get the most out of this course, you should have a basic understanding of the Alibaba Cloud platform.
Okay, so for our very last demo of the day, let's go ahead and upgrade our instance configuration. So I'll go click on Manage for our master here, and I'll go ahead and upgrade him to a different instance specification. To do that, I just click on Change Specifications, and from there, I'll be able to choose a larger instance class, so let's go ahead and do that. Let's upgrade to a c1.large, which has eight CPU cores and 16 gigabytes of RAM, so this is much, much bigger than our previous instance, and we can also, if we want, scale the storage, so maybe scale that up to 10 gigabytes, and I can choose to switch immediately after data is migrated onto the new instance. And keep in mind, that this is actually going to happen entirely in the background without any downtime, because I have an HA instance, so when the master is offline during the upgrade, the slave can take over, so this whole thing should happen without any downtime. And I can click Pay Now, and that will begin the upgrade process.
So I have now paid for our instance, and the upgrade process should get started. I'll go ahead and close this window and we'll refresh, and just wait for the upgrade to complete. So after waiting a bit, we can see that the upgrade has finished, we're now in the Running state here, still pay-as-you-go, but we now have eight CPU cores and 16 gigabytes of RAM, so it all worked and our storage has changed from 5 gigabytes to 10 gigabytes, and that was easy, it was all done entirely online without any intervention from us, except to initiate the upgrade in the first place. That's it for this demo, thank you for joining.
