Transcript

Hello, and welcome to this course on Alibaba Cloud Object Storage Service or OSS. My name is Dave Bedford and I'm the Principal Learning Technology Specialist for Alibaba at QA. In this introduction, I would like to explain who the course is designed for, the course overview, and objectives. This course is an introduction to the fundamental elements of Alibaba's Object Storage Service. As a result, this course is suitable for those who are starting out on their Alibaba journey and want to learn the fundamentals of how to use Alibaba's Object Storage Service, Security Engineers who secure and safeguard data within Alibaba, and those who are looking to begin their Certification journey with Alibaba.

This course is split into four sections. In the first section, we will be covering what is OSS. There will be a brief introduction to existing storage services and what they're used for, before introducing OSS as a Service and covering its advantages. The next section will cover the basic OSS concepts of regions, buckets, objects, and endpoints.

In the next section, we will cover aspects of security, including access control, server-side encryption, and an introduction to Resource Access Management or RAM. The last section will consist of two demonstrations. The first demonstration will be on bucket operations, where we will look at the lifecycle of a bucket. And the second demonstration will be on object operations, where we will look at the lifecycle of objects in a bucket.

Due to the fundamental level of this course, the demonstrations will be carried out in the Alibaba console, as this is where most people will start. Other graphical and command line tools are available to manage OSS. By the end of this course, you'll be familiar with the OSS-related concepts including buckets, regions, objects, and object lifecycle management, have knowledge about the advantages and billing models of OSS products, and have knowledge about the management, use, and operation of OSS buckets and objects.

I hope you find the course useful, and I look forward to speaking to you in the next section.
