First, we'll cover Alibaba Cloud Relational Database Services including an overview of some of the services that are provided with it. We'll then look at the main components of RDS in Alibaba, including different database engines, storage types, high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery, before moving on to examine the features of RDS such as security, database and account management, read-only instances, monitoring, and backups.
We'll consolidate all this information by taking you through a guided demonstration of creating an RDS instance using the Alibaba Console.

Hello, and welcome to this course on Alibaba Cloud's ApsaraDB Relational Database Service, commonly known as RDS. Although there are many more database offerings in Alibaba Cloud, for example, ApsaraDB for MyBase, Redis, Cassandra, and MongoDB, this course covers the fundamental introduction to the relational database offerings in Alibaba Cloud to cover the requirements for the ACA exam.
The course is split into the following four sessions. In session one will be an introduction to Alibaba Cloud Relational Database Services. I'll talk about what Alibaba RDS is with a brief overview of some of the services that are provided with it.
In session two, RDS components, I'll talk about the main components of RDS in Alibaba, the different database engines and additions that are available, storage types and how regions and zones can support high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery scenarios.
In session three, RDS features, I'll talk about the security features, database and account management, read-only instances, monitoring, and backups. And in the last session, session four, I'll finish up with a demonstration in the Alibaba Console of creating our first RDS instance.
The objective of this course is to provide you with an overall understanding of the different options you have when you're looking for a relational database solution to host within Alibaba. And the ability to help you determine which database service would be best suited for your expected workloads.

David’s IT career started in 1990, when he took on the role of Database Administrator as a favor for his boss. He redirected his career into the Client Server side of Microsoft with NT4, and then progressed to Active Directory and each subsequent version of Microsoft Client/Server Operating Systems. In 2007 he joined QA as a Technical Trainer, and has delivered training in Server systems from 2003 to 2016 and Client systems from XP onwards. Currently, David is a Principal Technical Learning Specialist (Cloud), and delivers training in Azure Cloud Computing, specializing in Infrastructure Compute and Storage. David also delivers training in Microsoft PowerShell, and is qualified in the Alibaba Cloud Space.
