Transcript

Hi, welcome to this course on Azure and SQL server database tuning. My name is Hallam Webber, and I will be your instructor for this course. This course focuses on maximizing the performance of hardware and infrastructure, as it relates to a database server. While the configuration of a server and databases can significantly impact query performance, we will not be looking at SQL queries per se, so you don't need to be an SQL expert to take this course.

In all database service scenarios, whether running as a service, or running on hardware, be that on premise or our virtual machine, we want to get as much data throughput as possible for the least cost. I'd describe this as a beginner to intermediate level course, emphasizing SQL Server running on a virtual machine. You will need to be familiar with basic Azure concepts, and have some knowledge of computer hard drives and networking, and familiarity with databases and their servers. We welcome all comments and feedback, so please feel free to reach out to us at support@cloudacademy.com with any questions or comments.

Hallam is a software architect with over 20 years experience across a wide range of industries. He began his software career as a  Delphi/Interbase disciple but changed his allegiance to Microsoft with its deep and broad ecosystem. While Hallam has designed and crafted custom software utilizing web, mobile and desktop technologies, good quality reliable data is the key to a successful solution. The challenge of quickly turning data into useful information for digestion by humans and machines has led Hallam to specialize in database design and process automation. Showing customers how leverage new technology to change and improve their business processes is one of the key drivers keeping Hallam coming back to the keyboard.
