Migrating Servers To Azure
Migrating a Physical Server from On-Prem to Azure with ASR
With the push to the cloud accelerating, it’s critical to understand how to migrate on-prem servers to Microsoft Azure. As an IT professional, you are likely to encounter situations where you need to plan and execute such migrations.
In this course, you will learn how to evaluate migration scenarios by using Azure Migrate. We’ll cover the discovery and assessment of on-prem VMware environments and how to identify workloads that can and cannot be deployed. You’ll also learn about Azure Migrate port requirements and how to determine if the target environment is supported for a migration.
Later in the course, you will learn how to deploy and configure Azure Site Recovery (ASR) and how to use it to migrate an on-prem server to Microsoft Azure. You’ll also learn how to configure storage, create a backup vault, and how to prepare the source and target environments ahead of a migration.
The topics covered in this Azure course map very closely to learning objectives covered in the Microsoft Azure certification exams. By mastering the topics covered in this course, the student not only learns skills necessary for assessing environments for migration suitability and for performing those migrations, but the student also learns skills necessary to prepare for certification exams.
- Discover and Assess On-Prem VMware Environment

Welcome to Migrating Servers to Azure. My name is Thomas Mitchell and I'll be leading you through this course on Azure Migrate and how to use Azure Site Recovery to migrate servers to Microsoft Azure. I'm an Azure Content Author at Cloud Academy and I have over 25 years of IT experience, several of those with cloud technologies. If you have any questions, feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. This course is intended for people who want to become certified Azure architects or who are simply tasked with managing and supporting Azure virtual machines. To get the most from this course, you should have a general understanding of Microsoft Azure and of VMware. We'll begin the course by touching on an overview of Azure Migrate, what it does, and what it offers.
We will then walk through the process of using Azure Migrate to assess an on-prem VMware environment for migration suitability. After working through all that Azure Migrate offers, we'll talk about Azure Site Recovery and how to use it to migrate on-prem servers to Microsoft Azure. We'll cover the prerequisites for Azure Site Recovery and the steps for setting it up. Next, we'll work through a few demonstrations that will cover the actual migration process for physical machines to Microsoft Azure. We'll cover the deployment of Azure Site Recovery, the setup of the source and destination infrastructures, and then the migration itself. By the end of this course, you should be able to explain what Azure Migrate is, what it offers, and how to use it to assess an on-prem VMware environment for migration suitability. You should also be able to deploy Azure Site Recovery and leverage it to perform migrations of on-prem machines to Microsoft Azure. We'd love to get your feedback on this course, so please give it a rating when you're finished. If you're ready to learn about migrating service to Microsoft Azure, let's get started.
