LAB A – Installing from different sources
In this lab you will install applications from different sources to observe the different OS behaviours.
The lab duration will be 15 minutes.
- For this lab, you will need to start the Windows 11 and pfsense VMs. Log into the Windows 11 VM using username Alice and password Pa$w0rd.
On Windows 10/11 we would recommend downloading applications from the Microsoft application store due to the additional protections and features that this offers.
If you download from the Microsoft Store, the download and installation process require no intervention, due to the trust between your Windows device and the store. On many devices you can of course download applications from many trusted/untrusted sources.
- On the Windows 11 VM, visit https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download and click on the Free Download This will download an executable to the Download folder.
- Visit https://beersmith.com/beersmith-legacy-version-downloads/ and download the Windows Installer for BeerSmith 1.4.
- Navigate to the downloads folder and right-click on the Downloaded apps, go to Properties, and select the Digital Certificate tab, highlight the certificate and look at the details, note that one app is signed, one is not. The digital certificate enables our devices to establish who an app was created by and whether it has been altered.
