Prerequisites
To get the most out of this course, you should have prior AWS Console knowledge and have some basic experience with EBS.
Summary. In this course, you learned about Amazon Data Lifecycle Manager. What it is, and how it allows you to automate the creation, deletion, and retention of EBS snapshots, EBS-backed AMIs, along with cross-account copies, basically backups for your EBS data. We also went over the three types of policies that could be created. EBS Snapshot Policy, EBS Backed AMI Policy, and Cross-Account Event Policy. This course included a hands-on or walk-through demo of how to set up, configure, and verify that Amazon Data Lifecycle EBS Snapshot Policy was set up correctly.
We've identified various ways to monitor DLM to make sure that it's running correctly from Amazon CloudWatch to CloudTrail. Making sure Amazon Data Lifecycle is doing its job because nothing is worse than needing a backup or snapshot only to find out that it hasn't been running successfully for some time. Finally, nothing gets done without the right IAM roles being implemented, so Amazon DLM has the right security and permissions to successfully manage lifecycle policies. If you take nothing away from this course but this important message, Amazon DLM doesn't work without properly tagging your instances or volumes. This concludes Amazon Data Lifecycle Manager.
