Description

One of the core building blocks of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is that of storage, and AWS provides a wide range of storage services that allow you to architect the correct solution for your needs. Understanding what each of these services, plus what they have been designed and developed for, gives you the knowledge to implement best practices ensuring your data is stored, transmitted, and backed up in the most efficient and scalable way. This course will focus on each of the storage services provided through AWS training and will explain what the service is, its key features and when and why you might use the service within your own environment.

Learning Objectives

The objectives of this course are to provide:

Intended Audience

This course is designed as an introduction to the AWS storage services and methods of storing data.  As a result, this course is suitable for:

  • Those who are starting out their AWS journey to understand the various services that exist and their use case
  • Storage engineers responsible for maintaining and storing data within the enterprise
  • Security engineers who secure and safeguard data within AWS
  • Those who are looking to begin their certification journey with either the AWS Cloud Practitioner or one of the 3 Associate level certifications

Prerequisites

This is an entry-level course to AWS storage services and so no prior knowledge of these services are required, however, a basic understanding of Cloud Computing and awareness of AWS would be beneficial but is not essential.

Transcript

Hello and welcome to this course, which will introduce you to the wide variety of AWS storage services that are available for you to use, depending on your requirements and use case. When it comes to the type of data you need to store and how durable or sensitive this data needs to be, it can greatly affect your chosen solution and ultimately which AWS storage service you would use.

Before we start, I'd like to introduce myself, my name is Stuart Scott, I am one of the trainers here at CloudAcademy, specializing in AWS, Amazon Web Services. Feel free to connect with me with any questions using the details shown on screen, alternatively you can always get in touch with us here at CloudAcademy by sending an email to support@cloudacademy.com, where one of our Cloud experts will reply to your question.

This course is designed as an introduction to the AWS storage services and methods of storing data, as a result, this course is suitable for those who are starting out on their AWS journey, to understand the various services that exist and their use case, storage engineers responsible for maintaining and storing data within the enterprise, security engineers who secure and safeguard data within AWS and those who are looking to begin their certification journey with either the AWS Cloud practitioner or one of the three associate level certifications.

This course is comprised of the following lectures, AWS Storage Services, this lecture looks at why there is such a range of different AWS storage services, the remainder of the lectures within this course will provide an overview of the storage services and its main features and use cases, starting with Amazon Simple Storage Service, known as S3, Amazon Glacier, Amazon EC2 instance storage, Amazon Elastic Block Store, EBS, Amazon Elastic File System, EFS and Amazon CloudFront. The next two lectures will focus on methods of transferring data for storage into and out of AWS, this includes AWS Storage Gateway and AWS Snowball. Finally, there will be a lecture summarizing the key points of this course.

The objectives of this course are to provide an overview and introduction to the different AWS storage services, an understanding of how to transfer data into and out of AWS and the knowledge to confidently select the most appropriate storage service for your needs. This is an entry-level course to AWS storage services and so no prior knowledge of these services are required, however, a basic understanding of Cloud Computing and awareness of AWS would be beneficial, but not essential. For more information on Cloud Computing concepts and principles, please see our existing course here. Please note, for any lectures that do include links in the slides, then I'll add these links into the transcript for each individual lecture.

Feedback on our courses here at Cloud Academy are available to both us as trainers and any students looking to take the same course in the future, if you have any feedback, positive or negative, it would be greatly appreciated if you could contact support@cloudacademy.com

That brings us to the end of this lecture, coming up next, we start off by looking at how storage is used within the AWS Cloud.
