In this course, we will look at the options available to you in these various environments for automating maintenance and regularly repeated tasks.
SQL Server has a long history of task automation through SQL Server agent, not only will we see how to use it but also how it’s been adapted to carry out maintenance tasks, and how similar functionality has made it into Azure services. To get the most out of this course, you should have experience with SQL Server Management Studio, be familiar with reading and writing SQL, and have an understanding of basic database architecture and administration tasks, like indexes and backups.
Course Related SQL Scripts
Azure automation service allows you to create and run scheduled tasks against any Azure resource. Tasks can be defined using a graphical interface or as a PowerShell script enabling the tasks to be as complex as needed. A job as an instance or a task being run or executed according to a predefined schedule.
In the context of automating tasks against Azure SQL. We are also interested in credentials for connecting to the server and database. Now, I just want to extend the example of important customer data that we looked at earlier with the SQL server job but executing a stored procedure on a schedule against an Azure SQL database. This will involve creating a runbook in an Azure automation service that contains a PowerShell script that will execute a stored procedure in a database. Let's have a look how we might do that.
