- Since we entered the information age, our world has developed at an incredible speed. There is now a huge amount of information out there, generated and accessed by our use of mobile phones, tablets, and computers. 90% of all data held globally has been generated in the last few years, and the amount of information doubles every six to eight months. This huge amount of data has changed the ways that companies and organizations work. A knowledge worker today will typically spend 30% of their time, or two and a half hours per day, searching for information. With the growing amount of information available to us all today, it can be very difficult to find what you want and when you want it. Document-held data accounts for around one-third of GDP and managing all this information is now a significant cost. However, there are some simple measures that can help to reduce the costs of document-held data, especially when considering that 75% of these costs are attributed to the time taken to recreate something that already exists. The video on document management in this series will give you some pointers on managing documentation effectively.
