- [Jeremy Cook] Control flow within a Go program can be implemented using the standard if/else statement. In the example shown here, line eight defines and sets the population variable with the value of 5,500.
Lines 10 through to 16 implement a simple if/else block, which tests whether the current value is within a certain range. Lines 18 to 20 implement another if statement, this time without the else portion. This also demonstrates that variables can be declared within the if statement itself, but need to be declared before the conditional or test. Running this example results in the following output, "medium," followed by, "Its on!"
In summary, you've just observed the basic form of the if/else statement and how it can be used perform control flow. If/else statements require curly brackets and do not require parentheses around the test.
