Description

Managing Records Disposition in Microsoft 365 looks at how you can manage the end-of-life process of important data. Data retention policies help an organization to protect important information from accidental or deliberate deletion, as well as how to automatically dispose of data when it is no longer practically required or if it would be illegal to still possess it. These policies can decide data’s fate, sometimes years in advance. As circumstances often change, disposition review is the process of allowing humans to review and change what happens to data before the retention policy automatically disposes of it. This lesson will show you how to configure a disposition review on a retention label and then conduct a disposition review.

Transcript

Hi, and welcome to this Managing Records Disposition in Microsoft 365 lesson. My name is Hallam Webber, and I'm an Azure instructor with 25-plus years of experience in the IT industry, and since 2014 I've focused on Microsoft Azure and related technologies.

This lesson is intended for students who want to learn about the disposition review process in Microsoft 365. The information presented in this lesson will be helpful to students preparing for the SC-400: Microsoft Information Protection Administrator exam.

In this lesson, we’ll learn what a disposition review is in the context of data retention and how to configure a review when creating a retention label. We will perform a disposition review, looking at various requirements such as permissions and roles.

This lesson focuses on disposition reviews and assumes you are familiar with data retention concepts and retention labels. The demonstrations are conducted in the Microsoft Purview portal. I will be creating a retention label as part of setting up a disposition review, but if you are unfamiliar with data retention, I suggest viewing the Data Governance in Microsoft 365 lesson.

When I created this lesson, all information was current. If you have any feedback, positive or negative, or if you notice anything that needs to be updated or corrected, please reach out to us at support@cloudacademy.com.
