This course is intended for people that want to learn about Amazon Kinesis: what it does and why it's important. I assume you have no prior knowledge of amazon kinesis or streaming data.
As a topic, Amazon Kinesis appears in multiple AWS certification exams. I've seen it recently in the developer associate exam, the data analytics exam, and the machine learning exam.
I have two primary goals in this course. I want to introduce you to the concept of data streaming.
It is a complex subject but it is not complicated.
Then I want to explain how AWS does streaming with its service Amazon Kinesis. As part of this explanation, I will cover the four primary components of the service. They are KinesisData Streams, Kinesis Data Fire Hose, KinesisVideo Streams, and Kinesis Data Analytics. Each of these components solves unique business problems.
It is a mistake to simply think that KinesisData Streams and Kinesis Data Firehose do exactly the same thing, with the difference being that Firehose is fully managed by AWS.
They are different, serve different use cases, and manage streaming data differently.
When finished with this course, you will have a solid understanding of what Amazon Kinesisis capable of doing, have use cases for each of the components, and an awareness of the types of problems that each component addresses. With that said, let's get started!
