Azure infrastructure gives you the freedom to implement various backup methods, like ones native to your particular brand of database engine. It also has built-in backup functionality designed to work with a wide range of data sources.

To get the most out of this course, you should have a basic understanding of Azure and SAP. Before taking this course, it is recommended that you take the Designing and Building a HADR for SAP Workloads on Azure course first.
Microsoft's Azure Backup is a general purpose backup service that is baked into the Azure infrastructure. It secures backed-up data with encryption in transit and at rest, and access to that data and backup functionality is managed using Azure's role-based access control. As the backup service is integrated with core Azure infrastructure, its functionality can be accessed via the CLI, PowerShell, REST API, SDK, Azure Resource Manager templates, and the portal.
Azure Backup Service automatically scales as required and automatically enforces and manages retention policy settings. Native support for SAP HANA and SQL Server makes database backup management and restoration simple. While other database engines don't enjoy the same level of support at this time, they are still accommodated through the use of pre-configured scripts supplied by Microsoft in conjunction with the virtual machine backup functionality.
