Start course

This course provides an introduction to serverless on AWS. If you are looking to learn how something that works on the internet could possibly not have a server involved, you have come to the right place!

Learning Objectives

In this course, you will learn:

  • How serverless compute is different from standard compute
  • How to define the roles that serverless compute can fill
  • To understand the true costs of serverless vs standard compute
  • To understand there is more to serverless than just compute

Intended Audience

This course is intended for solutions architects, developers, or generally curious people who are interested in learning the basics of serverless.

To get the most out of this course, you should have a moderate understanding of how standard compute works within the contexts of data centers, servers, and a regular PC.

Serverless is a very large field that has grown immensely in popularity and use. It is a newer paradigm that can greatly reduce your costs, improve your scalability, and overall can provide a great amount of simplicity through the use of managed services. There is a saying that no server is easier to manage than ‘no server’ (serverless).

This was just an introduction to the topic, and there is still quite a lot to learn. AWS has many different service offerings that range from compute, to application integration, and data storage. These days it's entirely possible to create a fully serverless application that scales and moves and operates without you ever needing to configure a virtual machine. That's really cool!

Anywhoo… That's all I have for you in this lecture. My name is Will Meadows and I'd like to thank you for spending your time here learning about the basics of serverless.  If you have any feedback, positive or negative, please contact us at, your feedback is greatly appreciated, thank you!
