AWS Summit New York: Sessions You Can’t Miss

AWS Summit NYC Sessions

Cloud Academy is proud to be a sponsor at the AWS Summit New York on Tuesday, July 17 in New York City. This event is an opportunity for organizations to learn how they can stay ahead of the curve in areas including artificial intelligence (AI), security, cost optimization, cloud migration, and more.

The AWS Summit New York agenda is packed with lots of great options, including chalk talks, challenges, and workshops. Unfortunately, you can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re looking for a little guidance for how to make the most of the event, here are my picks of the “could,” “should,” and “must” attend events for the day.

Could: Sessions where I will learn something new

CL 201 Holiday on Mars, The Serverless Team Challenge, 12:30 – 5:45 p.m.

This hackathon is an opportunity for teams to hone their application development skills using all AWS free-tier services. Lunch is provided and prizes will be awarded to the top three winning teams.

SVR 314 Develop Containerized Apps with AWS Fargate, Abby Fuller, 1:15 – 02:15 p.m.

Announced at re:Invent 2017, AWS Fargate is a technology for running containers without managing individual servers or clusters. This session provides a technical foundation for using AWS Fargate with your existing containerized services and it will cover some essential best practices for building images, managing secrets, monitoring, and more.

SRV 325 30 Serverless Architectures in 30 Minutes, Chris Munns, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

This chalk talk is a good crash course on the architectural patterns you can use with AWS Lambda to solve a range of challenges. More importantly, you’ll come away with real-world use cases and ideas for using serverless, all in just 30 minutes.

Should: The sessions you won’t see or hear anywhere else

SVR 403 Build and Collaborate on a Modern Web Application on AWS, Andrew Baird, 3:45 – 5:45 p.m.

This workshop is an interactive session where you will use a range of services to build and deploy a web application on AWS. The best parts? You’ll get lots of help along the way, and you’ll walk out with a fully functional application!

SRV 333 Create a Virtual Concierge Using Amazon Sumerian, Ben Moore, 3:45 – 4:45 p.m.

I’m a big fan of Amazon Sumerian, the AWS service for creating virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and 3D applications. If you haven’t had a chance to try Sumerian, this deep dive will be a great way to learn how to add a virtual character to AR and VR applications and manage the challenges you may encounter along the way.

Must: The can’t miss events of the day

Werner’s Keynote, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

AWS CTO Werner Vogels’ keynotes are where I always learn something new. So, if you have the chance to hear Werner speak, don’t miss it. Full stop. Dr. Matt Wood, GM of AWS Artificial Intelligence will be co-presenting, so this will be where we hear the latest on the product, and where we’ll get a hint of what to expect for re:Invent 2018.

The Expo, 11:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

The Expo is where you’ll have a chance to talk to the Cloud Academy team to understand how the newest AWS releases will affect your migration roadmap and learn how our platform can help you train your team in AWS products and services.

I’ll be in booth 730 with the team throughout the day. Stop by to learn how Cloud Academy can help your team train for current and upcoming AWS releases at scale. Alternatively, you can also book a meeting to speak with one of our experts. We look forward to meeting you!
