Prerequisites
Welcome to Android Device Administrator Enrollment. In this lesson, you’ll learn what Android Device Administrator Enrollment is, and why it’s used.
Android device administrator is a legacy way of managing Android devices. It predates Android Enterprise, and because Android Enterprise offers better management functionality, Google is decreasing device administrator support in new Android releases and is pushing people toward Android Enterprise for device management.
Now, with all that said, there are some places where Android Enterprise is not available – and there are some devices in the wild that cannot integrate with Google Mobile Services for one reason or another. In these cases, you can still use Android Device Administrator as your management solution in Microsoft Intune. It’s also still the recommended management solution for Microsoft Teams certified Android devices, so there are still some use cases for it.
To setup device administrator enrollment, you need to set your MDM authority to Microsoft Intune. Once you’ve done that, you need to specify Device Administrator as the management method for your devices. To do this, you need to sign in to the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center and choose > Devices > Android > Android enrollment > Personal and corporate-owned devices with device administration privileges > Use device administrator to manage devices.
Once you’ve specified Device Administrator in the Endpoint Manager admin center, you can tell your users how to enroll their devices. Visit the URL on-screen for step-by-step enrollment instructions:
Once your users have enrolled their devices, you can start managing them in Intune.
